Guide for Stair Lifts

There are three popular modes of accessing between the floors and stairs by the injured or disabled persons and these three modes of accessing are platform lifts, residential elevator, and stair lifts. But for the easy and convenient access the home stair lift system is the mot poplar home elevator system used all over the world so far.

If the reason behind its popularity is analyzed, it will be clear that costing plays a major role here. Whereas in case of elevator and platform lifts the involved cost come on 15-20k in case of straight stair lift it starts from 2.5 k to 5k at the maximum. In case of curved stair lift the costing cannot be estimated before measuring the stairs and it curves but whatever is the cost it cannot exceed the limit of residential elevator.

Depending on the operating type four types of drives are available in stair lift range and the most popular variants out of this range is rack and pinion system. To ensure better safety, cable drive system uses the best quality aircraft cable, which is the best option for stair lift operation theoretically. The main disadvantage of this type of drive is its uneven driving although implantation of new technology has created some more refined result on these devices and nowadays stair lifts using these drives are compatible with world class driving standard. Chain drive is used for good stair lifts and screw driven stair lifts are also not very popular for residential purpose.
Rack and pinion drive is run by gear, and teeth that needs regular maintenance. Although the intervention of new technology has empowered these tools as maintenance free tool as it does not require any kind of regular or frequent maintenance.

Track and rail are the medium on which carriages are carried and move up and down. The screws of the tracks are to be tighten in its proper proportion of tork and the bracket holing the tork needs to be fitted in the wall not in the stairs by any chance. In case of straight stair tracks are made of extrude aluminum but in case of curved track these are made of a combination of steel and aluminum for the best durability.

Early version of stair lift was of AC type and there was the requirement of 15 amp plug point in the main source to manage the entire drive and operation. But due to constant friction tear and wear was the essential problem with the cable. Presently most of the systems are run by DC system where a 12 volt rechargeable battery works on the drive and provide back up in case of power interruption.

Swivel seats are only option for seating arrangement in stair lift chairs and this type of seats are available in two types like, 90° or 180°; a 90 degree swivel seat is kept in mounted position in the up stair side upper direction and the 180 degree seat is used in both the direction.
